Each year your contribution = salary × your %, capped at the 2026 limit; the employer match = salary × match %. Contributions are added monthly and grow at the monthly equivalent of your annual return, and salary rises by your growth rate each year. Today’s dollars = balance ÷ (1 + inflation)^years.

What is an employer match?
Some employers add money to your 401(k) based on what you contribute, often up to a percentage of your salary. Contributing enough to get the full match is commonly the first step; check your plan’s formula and vesting schedule.
What are the 2026 401(k) limits?
$24,500 employee deferral; an extra $8,000 catch-up at age 50 or older; and, if the plan allows, $11,250 catch-up for ages 60–63.
