Editorial Policy & Methodology
How FinancePortal researches, lists, updates and corrects the information on this website.
Last updated 30 September 2026Where our information comes from
| Topic | Primary sources |
|---|---|
| Card fees, APRs and rewards | The card issuerâs own product page and published terms (for example Chase, American Express, Capital One, Citi, Discover, Wells Fargo, Bank of America) |
| Mortgage benchmark rates | Freddie Mac Primary Mortgage Market Survey (published weekly); conforming loan limits from the Federal Housing Finance Agency |
| Federal student loans | U.S. Department of Education, studentaid.gov |
| Rules and consumer protections | Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Federal Reserve, FDIC, IRS and other government agencies |
| Secondary sources | Reputable news and research used only to cross-check, and labelled as such |
How we list and compare
- Cards are shown with the issuerâs published annual fee, APR, rewards and offer. We do not rank cards by commission.
- Where an issuer page does not show a number, we display âSee issuerâ rather than estimate it.
- Sample rates in calculators are labelled as samples; only sourced benchmarks (such as the Freddie Mac survey) are presented as market figures.
- Nobody can pay to change how information is presented. Where sources disagree we use the official figure and say so.
How often we update
Every card page shows the date its terms were read from the issuerâs page. Card terms and rates change often, so always confirm on the issuerâs site before applying. Weekly benchmarks such as mortgage rates carry the date of the survey.
𧟠Calculators
Calculators use standard fixed-rate amortization: payment = P·r·(1+r)âż Ă· [(1+r)âż â 1], with monthly compounding. Results are estimates; your lenderâs figures may differ slightly because of day-count conventions, fees, escrow and rounding.
